Theories of Art and Image

In this course, students will familiarize themselves with different approaches to the theories of art and image, their philosophical foundations, cultural implications, and selected themes. The course describes the relationship between art, aesthetics, and culture.

This course analyzes the importance of art in Western and non-Western societies. It focuses on cultural and philosophical approaches based on anthropological analysis, art history perspectives, and semiotics. The course familiarizes students with different cultural and philosophical debates about the theories of art and image, particularly those used to analyze contemporary art objects like paintings, sculptures, theater, literature, photography, and cinema.

UW_01 wykorzystywać wiedzę z różnych dyscyplin nauk humanistycznych do twórczego identyfikowania, formułowania i innowacyjnego rozwiązywania złożonych problemów lub wykonywania zadań o charakterze badawczym, a w szczególności definiować cel i przedmiot badań naukowych w dziedzinie nauk humanistycznych, właściwie rozwijać metody, techniki i narzędzia badawcze oraz twórczo je stosować; formułować hipotezę badawczą oraz wnioskować na podstawie wyników badań naukowych

KK_03 uznania priorytetu wiedzy w rozwiązaniu problemów badawczych, poznawczych i praktycznych, w obrębie dyscyplin humanistycznych, z zachowaniem szacunku dla standardów pracy i debaty naukowej

Participation in class and exposition of a relevant theme is obligatory, and attendance of 80% is mandatory
