| Założenia (opisowo): | The aim of the course is to familiarize students with the basic groups of biologically active compounds and their chemical and physicochemical properties through practical laboratory exercises. Students acquire practical skills necessary for working in a biochemical laboratory, including the preparation of solutions, handling of laboratory equipment, and adherence to safety regulations. They learn methods of isolation and purification of proteins, nucleic acids, carbohydrates, and lipids from natural sources. The course also focuses on mastering qualitative and quantitative analytical techniques for biologically active compounds, as well as developing the ability to interpret experimental results and formulate conclusions. |

| Skrócony opis: |
The laboratory classes cover the main groups of biologically active compounds: proteins, enzymes, nucleic acids, carbohydrates, and lipids. They involve the use of various biochemical laboratory techniques, including the isolation of compounds from natural sources, examination of their properties, qualitative analyses, and quantitative determinations. |
| Pełny opis: |
The classes are conducted in a biochemistry laboratory in the form of practical experiments performed individually or in small groups. Each class is preceded by a short theoretical introduction and a discussion of safety procedures related to working with chemical reagents and biological materials. Students are required to prepare theoretically for the classes, perform experiments according to the provided instructions, take notes using a template supplied by the instructor, and prepare written reports on the experiments carried out. Estimated student workload during the semester – 50 hours total • 30 hours – participation in laboratory classes • 10 hours – preparation for each class • 10 hours – preparation of laboratory reports |

KNOWLEDGE: Upon completion of the course, the student knows and understands K_W01, K_W02, K_W04, K_W12, K_W15 • chemistry at an advanced level and the role of chemistry within the system of exact and natural sciences, as well as its importance for the development of humankind; • the fundamentals of biochemistry and the significance of chemical phenomena in processes occurring in living systems; • the principles of construction and operation of modern measurement instrumentation supporting scientific research in chemistry; • health and safety regulations, in particular the rules for safe handling of chemicals and for the selection and disposal of chemical waste, as well as the principles enabling independent work in a chemical laboratory and the assessment of related risks; • general principles of creating and developing forms of individual entrepreneurship based on knowledge in the field of chemistry. SKILLS: Upon completion of the course, the student is able to K_U01, K_U10 • use biochemical techniques and apply simple biological processes in chemistry and technology; • present the results of their own research in the form of a self-prepared written work (report, thesis), including a description and justification of the aim of the work, the adopted methodology, the results, and a discussion of their significance in the context of other similar studies. |
| Metody i kryteria oceniania: |
The final grade is based on the written or oral assessment of the student’s theoretical preparation for the exercise, the performance of the exercise, and the written scientific report on the experiment. |
