| Założenia (opisowo): | The aim of the course is to familiarize students with the basic groups of biologically active compounds and their chemical and physicochemical properties through practical laboratory exercises. Students acquire practical skills necessary for working in a biochemical laboratory, including the preparation of solutions, handling of laboratory equipment, and adherence to safety regulations. They learn methods of isolation and purification of proteins, nucleic acids, carbohydrates, and lipids from natural sources. The course also focuses on mastering qualitative and quantitative analytical techniques for biologically active compounds, as well as developing the ability to interpret experimental results and formulate conclusions. |

| Skrócony opis: |
The laboratory classes cover the main groups of biologically active compounds: proteins, enzymes, nucleic acids, carbohydrates, and lipids. They involve the use of various biochemical laboratory techniques, including the isolation of compounds from natural sources, examination of their properties, qualitative analyses, and quantitative determinations. |
| Pełny opis: |
The classes are conducted in a biochemistry laboratory in the form of practical experiments performed individually or in small groups. Each class is preceded by a short theoretical introduction and a discussion of safety procedures related to working with chemical reagents and biological materials. Students are required to prepare theoretically for the classes, perform experiments according to the provided instructions, take notes using a template supplied by the instructor, and prepare written reports on the experiments carried out. Estimated student workload during the semester – 50 hours total • 30 hours – participation in laboratory classes • 5 hours – preparation for entry tests • 5 hours – preparation for quizzes/exams • 10 hours – preparation of laboratory reports |
| Efekty uczenia się: |
K_W01, K_W02, K_U01 • Has extended knowledge of the place of chemistry within the system of natural and exact sciences, as well as of its importance for the development of humanity. • Knows the fundamentals of biochemistry and understands the significance of chemical phenomena in processes occurring in living nature. • Is able to use biochemical techniques and apply simple biological processes in chemistry and technology. |
