Acquisition of knowledge about natural biologically active compounds and their influence on the development of drug syntheses. |
| Pełny opis: |
The lecture topics are the following: a review on main groups of secondary metabolites with distinguished biological activity (glycosides, alkaloids, steroids, terpenes, antibiotics): the most important plant raw materials; modern methods of increasing of selected metabolites content in plant material; alkaloids with strong activity toward nervous system as lead compounds in the search for counterpain drugs; natural substances exhibiting antineoplastic, mutagenic and carcinogenic activity and their influence on advances of chemotherapy; natural anticancer drugs of plant origin; drug acting on the nervous system and their non-medical application. Estimated student workload per semester: 37.5 hours, including: • 15 hours of class participation • 7.5 hours of consultations • 15 hours of exam preparation |

KNOWLEDGE: After completing the course, the student knows and understands K_W01, K_W05, K_W08, K_W10 • has extensive knowledge of the place of chemistry in the system of exact and natural sciences and its importance for the development of humanity; • has in-depth knowledge and skills in the selected chemical specialization, allowing them to use the methods and concepts appropriate for this specialization and enabling independent research; • has advanced knowledge and skills in computational methods appropriate for a given chemical specialization; • has a good understanding of current trends in chemistry and the latest scientific discoveries in a given chemical specialization; • in particular: • knows and understands the general principles governing the search for and synthesis of new medicinal substances; SKILLS: After completing the course, the student is able to K_U08, K_U11 • possess advanced knowledge and skills enabling the use of professional literature, databases, and other sources of information, and to assess the reliability of the information obtained; • be able to discuss the place of chemistry in the system of exact and natural sciences and its importance for the development of our civilization; • explain, using selected examples, the importance of natural compounds in drug synthesis. SOCIAL COMPETENCES: After completing the course, the student is ready for K_K01 • continuous learning and independent search for information in literature, including foreign languages. |
