| Skrócony opis: |
Interdisciplinary lecture addressed to the participants with different background: chemistry, physics, biology, human science, etc. Provides an introduction to the marine microplastics and presents the scientific state-of-art in this domain. |
| Pełny opis: |
The aim of this lecture is to present in a systematic way the knowledge about marine microplastics. It consists of five meetings, each dedicated to one subject: 1. Marine Microplastics: general introduction 2. Marine Microplastics: facts and myths (chemical basics) 3. a) MMs characterization techniques: description of methods (Raman spectroscopy) b) At high seas: selected results from field studies 4. a) Ecotoxicology: MMs, POPs, nanoparticles b) Welcome on a Plastisphere 5. a) The civil science: contribution to the sea protection and science engagement case study b) Green chemistry: sustainable materials c) Art + Conclusions, papers presentations Alternatively, the lecture will provide a general introduction, and the laboratory workshop will present the FTIR and Raman spectroscopy of MMs. The program depends on the number of students in the group and their general knowledge about the topic. It is possible to choose the polish language and English slides. Estimated student workload per semester: 37,5 hours, including: • Attendance at lectures – 15 hours • Consultations - 2,5 hours • Preparation of an oral presentation and content discussion- 20 hours |
| Literatura: |
Up-to-data literature will be given at the first meeting. |
| Efekty uczenia się: |
KNOWLEDGE: Upon completion of the course, the student knows and understands K_W05, K_W10, K_W11 • advanced concepts in the chosen chemical specialization, enabling the use of methods and terminology appropriate for this specialization and allowing for independent research work; • the principles of construction and operation of modern measurement instrumentation supporting scientific research in a given chemical specialization; • current directions of development in chemistry and the latest scientific discoveries in a given chemical specialization. SKILLS: Upon completion of the course, the student is able to K_U07, K_U09, K_U11, K_U12, K_U13, K_U16 • critically evaluate the results of independently performed experiments within their chemical specialization and discuss measurement errors; • apply the acquired knowledge to related scientific disciplines and work in interdisciplinary teams; • discuss the place of chemistry within the system of exact and natural sciences and its significance for the development of civilization; • present, in a manner understandable also to non-specialists, the results of the most important discoveries in chemistry and related sciences; • independently acquire knowledge and develop professional skills using various sources (written and electronic), including foreign-language sources; • prepare oral presentations in Polish and in English on topics related to selected issues in chemistry, using basic theoretical approaches and drawing on various sources. SOCIAL COMPETENCES: Upon completion of the course, the student is ready to K_K01, K_K02, K_K03, K_K04, K_K05, K_K06 • pursue continuous self-education and independently search for information in the literature, including foreign-language sources; • appropriately define priorities for the implementation of tasks defined by themselves or by others; • properly identify and resolve professional dilemmas of a substantive, methodological, organizational, and ethical nature; • systematically review scientific and popular science literature in order to deepen and broaden knowledge, with an awareness of the risks associated with using unverified sources of information, including the Internet; • take conscious responsibility for undertaken research initiatives, experiments, or observations; • fulfill social obligations and co-organize activities for the benefit of the social environment. |
