Skrócony opis:

The lectures relate to the history of Azerbaijan-from the ancient times to Seljuk invation. The lectures elucidate the most important historical events and development of religious currents of ancient and medieval Azerbaijan within its boundaries of that time.

Pełny opis:

During the lectures, the stages of the primitive communal system, cave

sites, stone art, the first tribal confederaсies in the territory of Azerbaijan

will be discussed. A certain attention is paid to the Turkic tribes who have

long lived in this region; interesting points of view put forward by some

scientists on this matter are also considered. Under the influence of the

Huns, Khazars, Oguzes, a certain historical process was formed in the

ethnic history of this Caucasian region. The emergence of the first state

associations, the history of the states of Atropatena, Albania occupy an

important place in the course of the lectures. The feudal split in Azerbaijan

between the beginning of the collapse of the Caliphate and on the eve of

the Seljuk invasion contributed to the emergence of various feudal

principalities here - the states of Ravvadids, Salarids, Shirvanshahs, etc.

This historical period is the final stage of this course.

The religious views of the Azerbaijani people were influenced by a variety

of schools of religion. One of the most ancient beliefs of this people is

Zoroastrianism - the worship of fire. Zoroastrianism, which originated here

in antiquity, in turn formed the basis for the subsequent liberation

movements in Azerbaijan - Manichaeism, Mazdakism and Khurramites. At

the same time, Christian traditions were strong in the north of the region. It

is interesting that, despite the adoption of Islam in the 9th century, the

traditions of ancient Zoroastrianism are still popular among the people

today. Sufism played an important role in the spread of Islam, which

occupied a special place in the religious life of medieval Azerbaijan. These

issues are also covered during the lectures.
