This course will introduce a major sub-area of Public Diplomacy, and one which many practitioners feel is underrated: Cultural Diplomacy. This course will examine institutions, methods and big issues in cultural diplomacy. It will mix a historical perspective with the study of contemporary applications, and examples from all over the world.

This course focuses on the modern history of the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Region,

intended as the geographical area between Morocco and Iran and between Turkey and the Arabian

Peninsula. The course is centred on how the MENA Society dealt with the idea of "modernisation" and

engaged with a growingly globalised World. The course spans from Napoleon's invasion of Egypt (1798)

to the decade following the Arab Spring (2010-2011).

The goals of the course are:

1. Grasping the political and intellectual factors and tendencies that influenced the history of the

MENA region.

2. Relating historical insights to contemporary challenges and situations in an evaluative fashion,

highlighting the significance of cross-disciplinary methodologies.

3. Actively participating in class discussions with both the teacher and fellow students in a

meaningful manner.

Short Description: Students will study the concept, theories and types of international integration and its regional features together with the concept and essence of globalization as a social phenomenon and global problems of modern times and their classifications.

Migracje międzynarodowe - pojęcia, definicje i podstawowe sposoby pomiaru. Spojrzenie na trendy w migracjach międzynarodowych z uwzględnieniem perspektywy historycznej. Teoretyczne ramy procesów migracji międzynarodowych. Migracje a państwa - problematyka konstruowania polityki migracyjnej, polityki integracyjnej oraz wyzwania dla państw wynikające (lub i towarzyszące) z ruchów migracyjnych. Migracje przymusowe: typy i wyzwania (uchodźcy, migranci klimatyczni etc.) Imigranci i społeczeństwa przyjmujące. Diaspory, działania polityczne imigrantów.
